Dwarf gecko's can also be sneaky...

...as this guy was waiting for his girlfriend, and my wife put a dead small fly down for him.

The Cape dwarf gecko (Lygodactylus capensis; 'lygodactylus' = 'flexible fingers') is a species of dwarf gecko found in the woodlands and forests of central and southern Africa. It also occurs commonly in towns and cities and is sometimes kept as a pet.
Length (snout to vent length) is 39 mm for males, 43 mm for females. Throat is stippled with grey or brown while the belly is cream coloured. The back is grey-brown with dark streak from snout to shoulder or beyond. Its tail is remarkable for having the underside covered in adhesive lamellae enabling its use as a fifth limb.

So, in the picture below, he jumped onto the fly and ate it.

Then his girlfriend appeared and he said; Good morning sweetheart, I tried to get a piece of meat for you, but it flew away.
He is a real smooth talker, and we saw him eating the fly.

She was not happy, and I think that she knew that he ate the fly.

He hugged her and said; *No, no, don't go, as I have something else in mind *

Come let's go for a walk so the others can also see your beauty, and she followed him.

The thing is when I downloaded the pictures from the camera on to the PC, I was wondering what kind of a story I can put to it, but then again, I know the wiles of males and the tricks that they can play in order to get their females to feel good. It is very similar in our human lives, as there are always smooth talking males around, and they are hardly ever filled with the truth. She knew that the gecko ate the fly, and yet she forgave him. Lol.
Such is life.

Commercial Fishing boats as seen in New Bedford MA

Good morning, TGIF, and have a good day and weekend.

Today I will share a few photos of a selection of the commercial fishing boats here in New Bedford, MA.

Starting with the American Viking

The F/V American Viking is a 78.7-foot commercial scallop fishing vessel owned by Fleet Fisheries. Docked in New Bedford, Massachusetts, this bright red vessel (MMSI 368231750) measures about 29 meters long and operates out of the nation’s top-grossing commercial fishing port

The F/V Venture and F/V Vigilance are premier examples of modern commercial sea scallop draggers

Sea scallop draggers (or dredgers) operate by towing heavy, specialized steel frames equipped with collection bags along the ocean floor. This highly synchronized process combines heavy mechanical dragging with fast-paced manual labor

I was just thinking how do they do what they do so I looke dit up and found the following;

Outriggers or booms extend from the sides of the ship, and massive winches lower the steel dredges into the ocean
The ship steams slowly at roughly 2.5 knots for 15 minutes to over an hour. As the dredge glides over the seabed, a flat steel cutting bar or a series of teeth "tickles" the surface to lift scallops into the collection bag

The hydraulic winches haul the heavy frames—often weighing over a ton when loaded—up to the deck. The bottom of the bag is released using a "club stick," dumping the entire pile of scallops, rocks, and debris onto the sorting deck

The crew works swiftly on deck to pick through the catch, tossing legal-sized sea scallops into baskets while shoveling stones and incidental catch back over the side into the ocean

Federal regulations prohibit vessels on extended trips from bringing scallops back to port in their shells. The crew manually opens each shell with a shucking knife, slicing out only the circular adductor muscle (the white meat we eat) and discarding the remaining shell and viscera back into the sea.

The harvested meats are thoroughly washed, packed into 50-pound cloth or muslin bags, and immediately buried in layers of fresh ice inside the ship's refrigerated hold to prevent spoilage

Portraits and Scenes from Kolkata, India

It's gray and dark in Tbilisi despite sunny promises of weather forecasters, feel sort of sleepy and low spirited, so I am returning to posting about Kolkata where I spent a month in August/September 2026.

This part is one of my favorite in that city - in general, talkative, easy-going people, and they are not sticky like in small places in the northern plains of India - city folk value time and respect others. Thus, taking street photographs is quite compy in Kolkata.

The guys above spotted me having a large camera, shooting them on the move, stopped the vehicle, posed for a couple of second and left. A great energy sparked thanks to this light communication.

Another lovely interaction in the frame - meeting local kids.

There are gloomier characters there too.

A person living in trash. That's not just poverty but a lifestyle... And that's who is below the blanket.

I never felt excited to start chatting to that guy...

A more simple case: the guy was just sunbatting on the sidewalk. Why not? 😀

Loved this guy - a security guard (looked like) who wanted me to photograph him. He was radiating his unusual charisma - it was clear to me that people loved him.

What a family business – making gods out of clay.

It's hard to imagine what's going on in this lad's head after a day of modeling clay tits.

And that's in a Krishna temple I was invited in:

A young man told me to follow him when I was shooting the place from outside - he said that was his job to show the temple to strangers.

A fantastic guide, loved the time with him, he told a lot about the temple and the religion.

Time to go back to the hostel, traveling by buses is another fun in Kolkata.

Actually quite efficient from the point of timing + looking cool.

That's the intersection I daily began my photo walks in Kolkata. I still don't miss it, lol...

Golden Slopes and Globe Thistles: The Vastness of Lake

From atop the tranquil lake reservoir, the view expands to one of sunbathed hills, tranquil blue water, and hardy plants on the ridge line.

The visual narrative is started off by way of a panoramic view of hills covered in ochre hues, in which the still water is present under a huge, light-colored summer sky.

Getting closer to the overlook area, the deep blue color of the reservoir appears within the landscape surrounded by terraced hills with thin groves of olives and other flora.

The ultra wide-angle view gives a sense of how big the lake created by the dam is, and how much it signifies solitude and space.

By zooming into the image, we get an intense close-up view of a globe thistle with its spiky purple ball against the blurry blue water below.

Switchbacks to Bertha Lake

After tackling several switchbacks, I was making good progress on my way to Bertha Lake. By this time the afternoon temperature was hitting its peak, and the heat was making things somewhat tougher, but still manageable. At times it felt like walking through a tropical jungle. Good thing I packed several bottles of water to get me through. The overall hike to the lake takes us up about 500 metres in elevation gain. This one was on track to be decidedly tougher than yesterday’s hike to Lineham Falls (last July). Thanks for stopping by.

Hermoso atardecer en Cuba, vista desde el campo. Puesta del sol.

En Cuba, el atardecer no es simplemente el fin del día; es un espectáculo grandioso, gratuito y profundamente emocional que la naturaleza nos regala cada tarde.

Como pueden ver en esta fotografía que quiero compartir con ustedes hoy, el cielo cubano es un lienzo impredecible. Aquí no hay dos atardeceres iguales. En esta imagen en particular, podemos apreciar un contraste espectacular: nubes densas y grises, casi dramáticas, que parecen querer cubrirlo todo, pero justo en el horizonte, la luz se resiste a apagarse.

Un destello dorado y anaranjado se abre paso entre las nubes, tiñendo el horizonte de esperanza y calidez. Es esa lucha entre la oscuridad que llega con la noche y la luz del sol que se despide. La tierra, ya sumida en las sombras, se dibuja como una silueta negra e imponente, mientras que unas finas y delicadas ramas secas se recortan contra el resplandor, como si quisieran tocar el fuego del cielo.

Lo hermoso de los atardeceres en Cuba es la atmósfera que se crea. Después del calor sofocante del dia , la brisa comienza a soplar. El cielo tropical se vuelve una paleta de colores vibrantes: azules profundos, violetas, grises tormentosos y naranjas incandescentes. Es un momento de pausa, de silencio, de mirar hacia arriba y sentirse pequeño ante la inmensidad de la naturaleza.

No importa si estás en una ciudad llena de historia, en una playa con el sonido de las olas, o en el campo rodeado de vegetación; el atardecer cubano siempre te detiene. Te invita a respirar profundo, a agradecer por un día más y a reflexionar.

Esta foto captura perfectamente esa paz. Es la belleza de lo simple, de lo agreste, de ese momento justo antes de que las estrellas hagan su aparición.

An Aerochrome Autumn

Finally I feel good enough to start getting out more! Today was a long, rainy day and I had that urge to get out and enjoy the weather. I absolutely love rainy days, I love that atmosphere and the colours that are heightened from the artificial lighting and reflections all around. And of course it's even more fun with the beautiful colours of autumn really picking up. I opted for the 35mm lens on the Canon AE-1 for these, with a mist filter which gave everything a bit more softness. I always love how the mist filter impacts an image, especially on days with lots of beautiful light.

These were from the park nearby, I walked around just a few hours before sunset and enjoyed the colours around. It was raining at the time but not too much, it remained tolerable enough to walk around without the camera getting wet. Not many people were around, which is a fairly common aspect of rainy days here in Armenia. Armenians absolutely hate rain, you'll see people avoiding rain as much as possible. This for me makes the parks more fun, it's quieter, more free. More silent around for me to enjoy the peace and get a feeling of that atmosphere that is often lingering within such environments: large Soviet structures and designs. The feeling of a lost world. All with the beauty of falling leaves around.

I went for a more Aerochrome look for these, while they're shot digitally, I wanted to mimic the film stock style that is really beautiful for natural shots. Though I didn't want so much of the Aerochrome's intense reds and pinks. Only one of the images I didn't mind it so much for, where the reds and pinks compliment the park's large columns that wrap around the central part. I think this is one of the most beautiful parks I have seen in and around Yerevan. It has such a charm to it that others don't have. It feels old, beautiful, and still rather natural without too much of today's minimalist influence, albeit for the benches.

I actually really liked how these came out in the end. I don't really enjoy the editing process much, nor overdoing things, and sometimes that's really easy when it comes to tweaking colours so much that they become rather dominant in the image itself.

Beauty in Dryness 乾いていく美しさ [English and Japanese]

Beauty in Dryness

The early autumn colours are fading little by little, and I am witnessing everything around me drying out and coming to the end of its life for this season. The vivid autumn colours are disappearing, and I can hear crunchy, rustling sounds everywhere.

These are my shiso leaves, flowers, and seeds. I dried them in a special drying net in the shed. The seeds are ready for next spring, and the purple shiso leaves are for cooking. Shiso still smells wonderful, even when it's dried.

I couldn't take any photos of the geese, but I started hearing them in the sky. Some of them flew away yesterday. The moon was in the sky, too. Their formation was amazing, as usual. I felt a little melancholy knowing they were leaving. On the other hand, I was glad they were doing well and were ready to move on. The whole family, including the babies, is ready to fly.

This oak tree is a landmark for our house. It's a landmark just for us, but I'm glad the municipal government didn't cut it down last summer. Sometimes, they cut down trees growing near the road.

This is my neighbour's tree, a big, beautiful maple. After I took this photo, my neighbour, who owns the tree, waved to me from his window. He takes very good care of his property. Every summer, he works hard in his yard, and by autumn, he's already finished preparing for winter, much earlier than we do.

I heard a rustling sound coming from the cornfield. The corn looked so beautiful, and soon it will be ready to become animal feed. I hope the stalks can stand here for as long as possible, but before long, they will all disappear.

I wanted to get closer to take a photo because the sun was shining beautifully, too. My dog followed me happily. He likes exploring and doing things differently. Actually, he also likes having a daily routine, which helps him feel calm and secure. That sense of routine helps him stay grounded in the present. On the other hand, he enjoys trying new things, too. His curiosity helps him stay positive. I think I'm the same as he is.

After saying hi to the corn ladies, I headed home with my dog. I took a picture of these guys, too. They produce beautiful purple flowers in summer. Even though they've dried out this much, they're still pretty.

This view is the final destination of our walk. After taking in the sight of the cliff, we turned around and headed home. Today, the clouds and the cliff seemed to run parallel to each other.

The view is different every time. Even though the colours of the cliff, the ocean, the sky, and the clouds may seem the same, they are always changing. Do you understand what I mean? This view has been here for countless years, yet every second, it presents us with a different scene. I never get tired of looking at it.

乾いていく美しさ

初秋の色彩が少しずつ薄れ、周りのあらゆるものが乾き、この季節の生命を終えようとしている姿を目にしています。鮮やかな秋の色は少しずつ消えつつあり、そこらじゅうから、パリパリ、カサカサという音が聞こえてきます。

これは、庭で育ったシソの葉と花、そして種です。物置の中で、乾燥させる用の特別なネットに入れて乾かしました。種は来年の春に向けて準備万端です。紫蘇の葉っぱは料理に使います。乾燥しても、シソはとてもいい香りがします。

カナダグース（カナダガン）の写真は撮れませんでしたが、空から鳴き声が聞こえるようになりました。昨日、いくつかの集団が飛び立っていきました。空には月も出ていました。カナダグースたちが列をなして飛ぶ姿は、いつものことながら見事だなと思います。旅立っていくのを思うと、少し寂しい気持ちになりました。その一方で、みんな元気で、次の場所へ向かう準備ができていることが嬉しいです。子どもたちも含め、家族みんなが飛び立つ準備を整えているのだと思います。

このオークの木は、我が家の目印です。といっても、自分たちだけが知っている目印ですが、昨年の夏、自治体がこの木を切り倒さなかったので、ホッとしています。道路沿いに生えている木が、ときどき伐採されることがあるのです。

こちらは、ご近所さんの大きくて美しいカエデの木です。この写真を撮ったあと、木の持ち主であるご近所のおじさんが、窓から手を振ってくれました。彼は自分の土地をとてもていねいに手入れしています。毎年夏には庭仕事に精を出し、秋になると、私たちよりずっと早く冬支度を終えます。
