Historia
Es mi primera vez haciendo un rostro con un pelo super ondulado y la piel bastante oscura. Al principio me dio miedo hacer el dibujo porque hacer una piel morena o blanca no se parecen en nada a lo complejo que es colorear este tipo de piel porque involucra morados, algunos terracota, rojos, algunos marrones,me costo llegar al color dela referencia pero lo logre incluso me gusto el tono de la piel que logre.

Histoy

This is my first time drawing a face with very wavy hair and fairly dark skin. At first, I was nervous about drawing it because drawing dark or fair skin doesn’t begin to reflect how complex it is to color this type of skin—it involves purples, some terracotta tones, reds, and some browns. It was hard for me to match the color in the reference, but I managed to do it, and I actually liked the skin tone I ended up with.

Here, I decided to draw an avocado using some gel markers I’d just been given, and it was mostly a way to experiment with this new medium. I did it last year on a piece of cardstock that absorbs a lot of ink, and I like how it turned out.

More Pixagram Experiments: When the Pixels Invent Their Own Landscape

The original

This is another older digital painting of mine. A lone figure stands at the base of a tall transmission tower, arms raised, while a strange hovering craft pins them in a beam of light. Everything is wrapped in fog and smoke, with dark ground and almost no detail in the background. I deliberately kept it murky. The mystery was the point: you can't quite tell what the craft is, where this is, or whether the figure is surrendering or signalling.

The pixel version

This time I also tried the Quantize option, which reduces the colour palette for a cleaner, more classic pixel art look. The finished file came out at around 222 KB.

What the pixels decided to add

This is where it got weird, in a good way. The tool clearly looked at all that fog and decided it needed filling in.

Mountains appeared. Snow-capped peaks now rise up behind the tower, where my original had nothing but haze.
Sand and rock showed up. The dark foreground became a dusty desert floor, with layered sandstone cliffs and ridges running off to the right.
The craft got an upgrade. My vague, lumpy flying shape turned into a detailed sci-fi ship with thrusters and panels. It looks like it's flown straight out of a video game.
Power lines were strung up. The tower now has cables running off into the distance, connecting it to a wider world.
Tiny extras were added. Little specks in the sky and small structures perched on the cliffs, details I certainly never painted.
The figure lowered their arms. The raised-arms pose is gone, replaced by a small standing figure, which changes the story quite a bit. Also moved to one side

What I'm learning

When you give the pixel tool empty space, it doesn't leave it empty. It fills it with its best guess.

With Follow the Pack, the original had a clear subject and a fairly simple background, so the tool mostly restyled what was already there. With this one, all the fog and ambiguity gave it room to invent. The result is a much more detailed scene, but also a much more literal one. The mystery of my original has been swapped for a clear sci-fi setting.

I don't think either is better. They're telling two different stories:

The original is moody and uncertain. Is this a rescue, an abduction, a dream?
The pixel version feels like a cutscene from a retro space game. Ship arrives, scans the survivor, mission begins.

Tips so far

Busy, clearly defined images tend to stay faithful to the original.
Soft, foggy or abstract images give the tool more freedom, so expect surprises.
The Quantize option is worth trying for a crisper result.
Use the before and after toggle to compare what's actually changed. It's easy to miss the smaller additions.

Next up

I've got plenty more old pieces to put through the machine. I'm tempted to try something really abstract next, just to see what the tool hallucinates out of pure colour and texture.

Today, I want to use this art to speak about the reality of life; do you know that sometimes, the people who look frightening just like this sketch are not the ones we should fear? The real monsters are those who use threats, intimidation, and power to make others suffer. Nobody has the right to make another human feel unsafe. We are all equally human.

Thinking about the theme of fractals, I remembered how much I enjoy working and designing with textures, and, within those textures, the patterns that are themselves related to fractals. It must be because everything is connected to everything else. So I looked for various images with textures that resembled geometric shapes or mosaics, but also featured very vivid, eye-catching colours. At the same time, I wanted to combine all of this with fractals such as mandalas, and these in turn with the vision and perspectives represented by the eyes. I didn’t want to leave out the theme of textures on the skin; I love it and have always loved working with it. In fact, I used to create lots of these designs, where I enjoyed experimenting with different textures, filters and blending modes, whilst also erasing certain parts to see how they behaved and blended with the background, which, in this case, would be skin.

I looked for a rather distinctive mosaic texture image to work on the face, and that’s where I spent most of my time. I think the combination of patterns, fractals and textures has produced a good result, and above all I like that it features very vibrant colours.

Pensando en la temática de los fractales, recordé lo mucho que me gusta trabajar y diseñar con texturas y dentro de ellas los patrones que a su vez se relacionan con los fractales. Debe ser porque todo se relaciona con todo. Por ello busqué varias imágenes con texturas que se parecieran con figuras geométricas o mosaicos, pero además con colores muy vivos, con colores llamativos. Pero al mismo tiempo quería combinar todo ello con fractales como los mandalas, y ellos a su vez con la visión y los puntos de vista representados por los ojos. No quería dejar de lado el tema de las texturas sobre la piel, me encanta y siempre me encantó trabajar con ello, de hecho, antes hacía muchos de estos diseños, en donde me gustaba probar distintas texturas, filtros, fusiones y a su vez borrar ciertas partes y ver como se comportan y entremezclan con el fondo, que en este caso sería piel.

Busqué una imagen de textura de mosaico bastante particular para trabajar sobre el rostro y es donde dediqué el mayor tiempo. Creo que la combinación de los patrones, fractales, texturas ha dado un buen resultado y sobre todo me gusta que tenga colores muy vivos.

Design process

The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6 without the use of AI, using royalty-free images arranged across 24 layers.

To create the background, I used five images: mosaic textures and geometric shapes. On top of the first image I chose, I placed the second using the ‘Spot Light’ blending mode, and on top of that another using the ‘Overlay’ blending mode. I then used the other two images, which are geometric shapes—with the ‘Darken’ blending mode; one of these was duplicated into two layers, with different sections used on each.

On top of this, I positioned the outline image of a woman on both sides of the design, rotating one of them vertically, and applied the ‘Darken’ and ‘Divide’ blending modes. I then worked on the two mandalas, creating several layers for each, using ‘Hard Light’ and ‘Spot Light’ blending modes. On top of the gold-coloured mandala layers, I placed the eye, selecting it as a circle and in ‘Normal’ mode.

The exhibition will be of the shameful lack of access the public have to HECKEL’S HORSE. Where most would expect HECKEL’S HORSE paintings to hang in a HECKEL’S HORSE exhibition will be exhibits that leave visitors wondering “If only more people would read and understand the STUCKIST MANIFESTO, we’d be looking at HECKEL’S HORSE paintings right now. Not these feeble substitutes Edgeworth’s pathetically rustled up. Where did it all go wrong?” I’ll tell you where it all went wrong. It all went wrong when everything the STUCKIST MANIFESTO hates turned up, got comfy and refused to leave for 13 years.

Pompously pushing and prodding HECKEL’S HORSE like a purposeless pawn playing perpetual political art chess is doubly shameful for me, as Charles Thomson appointed me DIRECTOR OF STUCKISM. Recent events have finally pulled the wool from over my eyes. Despite not even voting in the EU referendum, I’ve been rightly instructed by friends not to continue supporting people who create barriers for political gain, in what was a clear reference to my Tony Benn-esque views on the EU which these days, are considered far-right. Consider it done. My quantum subatomic support of Brexit ends here. I hope that’s a load off for everyone. L-13’s welcome public castigation of me on my Instagram seemed quite...

In 2027, right after I’m back from Thailand, the first solo HECKEL’S HORSE exhibition will be held at BLACK IVORY in London, and will include absolutely no HECKEL’S HORSE art.

Hello my beautiful people of Hive, today I show you this sketch, from the collection "The cry that is not heard", which I have been building and showing you my dear Hivers, I hope you like it:

What exactly happens in that diffuse moment when the real world fades and we close our eyes? For her, that is the moment when the real adventure begins. This sketch, titled "The Dream Hunter," is not just a portrait; It is a window to that wild and unknown territory where our deepest ideas live.

Born from the pages of a simple notebook, her intense and almost defiant gaze invites us to cross the threshold.
I wanted to capture the duality of the dreamlike in her face: the calm of her dark eyes contrasts with the passion of crimson lips, ready to whisper secrets. Her hair, painted with loose strokes loaded with deep blues, purples and pink sparkles, mixes with the ink as if it were smoke, reminding us that nothing in the world of dreams has a fixed shape.

At his side, two inseparable guardians help me tell his story. On the one hand, the classic fly agaric, a mushroom loaded with folklore, magic and mystery, which here acts as a lighthouse that illuminates the path to the subconscious. On the other, a dark-winged nocturnal moth, a being that, like her, is attracted to light in the midst of darkness; a symbol of transformation and the beauty that is only found when the sun goes down.

This drawing was an exercise in raw and spontaneous expression on dotted paper, letting the markers and pens flow without seeking anatomical perfection, but rather capturing an emotion. That's the essence of The Huntress: catching ideas before dawn dissipates them.

In this publication I invite you to discover the secrets behind this look, the reason for its colors and how the small elements around it complete its story.

Hola mi gente linda de Hive, hoy les muestro este boceto, de la colección "El grito que no se oye" , la cual he ido construyendo y mostrándoles mis queridos Hivers, espero que les guste :

¿Qué sucede exactamente en ese instante difuso en el que el mundo real se desvanece y cerramos los ojos? Para ella, ese es el momento en el que comienza la verdadera aventura. Este boceto, titulado "La Cazadora de Sueños", no es solo un retrato; es una ventana a ese territorio salvaje y desconocido donde habitan nuestras ideas más profundas.

Nacida de las páginas de un simple cuaderno de notas, su mirada intensa y casi desafiante nos invita a cruzar el umbral.
Quise capturar en su rostro la dualidad de lo onírico: la calma de sus ojos oscuros contrasta con la pasión de unos labios carmesí, listos para susurrar secretos. Su cabello, pintado con trazos sueltos y cargados de azules profundos, púrpuras y destellos rosados, se mezcla con la tinta como si fuera humo, recordándonos que nada en el mundo de los sueños tiene una forma fija.

A su lado, dos guardianes inseparables me ayudan a contar su historia. Por un lado, la clásica amanita muscaria, un hongo cargado de folclore, magia y misterio, que aquí actúa como un faro que ilumina el camino hacia el subconsciente. Por el otro, una polilla nocturna de alas oscuras, un ser que, al igual que ella, se siente atraído por la luz en medio de la oscuridad; un símbolo de transformación y de la belleza que solo se encuentra cuando el sol se oculta.

Este dibujo fue un ejercicio de expresión cruda y espontánea sobre papel punteado, dejando que los marcadores y las plumas fluyeran sin buscar la perfección anatómica, sino capturar una emoción. Esa es la esencia de La Cazadora: atrapar las ideas antes de que el amanecer las disipe.

Our amazing community has reached 7,463 subscribers and we have done 427 curation posts with your amazing art, LFG 🎉

First things first you may have noticed a new banner and PFP for the community. Change is good and it was time for an update, hope you like it!

We have seen an influx of new users, welcome and we are pleased to have you!

We don't have a lot of rules here as long as you are posting your original art.

The one firm rule we have is about plagiarism or impersonation, if your account is caught doing either of these there will be an insta ban!

Here are are a few tips to keep in mind.

CURATION

We have our own little curation situation where we may be able to get you a few votes here and there but there is also the whole HIVE userbase who can choose who to vote with their stake. For some general advice to improve your chances we recommend making less short posts and more long posts and giving some context and background for your art. If the votes don't matter to you feel free to post away as much as you like.

If the art you are posting is using another artists work as a strong inspiration or study etc. it is recommended to cite your sources. This one is a little more of a grey area but it's always a nice thing to do and is good for your credibility.
