[**SHOW ME A PICTURE OF BIRD. FREE THEME**](https://ecency.com/@nelinoeva/feathered-friends-show-me-a-2a9b1ef545f6a)*

Hey, @nelinoeva.
Do you live far from the sea? I know that residents of seaside towns have such an entertainment - feeding seagulls right in their flight. Of course, I live far from the sea and I couldn't have that much fun, but I've watched this game 2 times. The first time was in Abu Dhabi, and the second time was in Kaliningrad.
Why haven't I shown the gulls of the Persian Gulf yet? It's been 3 years since then.
But today I decided to show the gulls of the Baltic Sea and entertainment in the city of Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad region.

* * * * * * * * * *

[![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmYHbJ5wyAnFYN1pSM7C9pDDB16k51W5mC3MmcY4isrYsZ/20261029_5.jpg)](https://i.ecency.com/DQmYHbJ5wyAnFYN1pSM7C9pDDB16k51W5mC3MmcY4isrYsZ/20261029_5.jpg)

Last spring, I visited Kaliningrad with my children, and one of the stops on our journey was Svetlogorsk. As we strolled along the seaside promenade, I spotted two young women standing by the railing. Around them, seagulls swooped and circled in the air, their cries blending with the murmur of the waves.

Drawing a little closer, I watched as the girls fed the birds, tossing small pieces of bread into the air. The seagulls darted and snatched the crumbs mid‑flight, a graceful, chaotic dance against the backdrop of the sea. One girl kept throwing the bread, her laughter carried away by the breeze, while the other captured the whole scene on her smartphone, trying to freeze that fleeting, lively moment in time.

* * * * * * * * * *

[]

[![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmXwiQFHCCFfdCqPF2XFWA6BKXBVnsrswtqZgG5QSmHyZs/20261029_.jpg)](https://i.ecency.com/DQmXwiQFHCCFfdCqPF2XFWA6BKXBVnsrswtqZgG5QSmHyZs/20261029_.jpg)

Who noticed that small flock in the background? It looked like geese. It was May. During those days, we saw many such flocks of geese and cormorants. We even visited a spot where these birds nested.

Meanwhile, the women kept playing with the seagulls, and soon a little crowd gathered around them, drawn by the cheerful scene. People smiled and laughed, enjoying the simple, spontaneous entertainment unfolding right before their eyes.

* * * * * * * * * *

[![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmThJhCXKPSEPvmrJPwdXqxCo8E1aodv9AxFi3kQWLSJmu/20261029_1.jpg)](https://i.ecency.com/DQmThJhCXKPSEPvmrJPwdXqxCo8E1aodv9AxFi3kQWLSJmu/20261029_1.jpg)

* * * * * * * * * *

[![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmVgXM5z6589XQNz8qK8p3mmFXTMwhGkNQLJg9ZwCnwx9T/20261029_4.jpg)](https://i.ecency.com/DQmVgXM5z6589XQNz8qK8p3mmFXTMwhGkNQLJg9ZwCnwx9T/20261029_4.jpg)

It seemed to me that some of the birds were performing a dance for the people - a routine they’d long since mastered, as if they knew the unspoken rule: to get food, you had to give something in return. And what could the birds offer? Nothing but that very dance - a graceful, airborne performance, woven from swoops and turns, right there in the sky.

Sometimes the birds would hover in one spot, just like hummingbirds, and then suddenly dart down to catch a falling piece of bread. Who hasn’t seen seagulls in action? That spectacle is truly worth watching. I’ve been “attacked” by seagulls many times myself - during walks along the beach or even while fishing.

* * * * * * * * * *

[![](https://i.ecency.com/DQmSZYoMKPEH74vSRHsa3f3qbP8mW77bz96i9b1sbxsCzvF/20261029_2.jpg)](https://i.ecency.com/DQmSZYoMKPEH74vSRHsa3f3qbP8mW77bz96i9b1sbxsCzvF/20261029_2.jpg)

Eyes, I want to see his eyes...

Hello to everyone who loves this fantastic "Feathered Friends Community": Honestly, I don’t want to keep mentioning the weather every single week, but I have to, because it affects the behavior of the birds that visit us. That said, it has been a lovely week overall; we had a pleasant surprise, and it’s great to share the shots we’ve taken for this wonderful "Show-Me-A-Photo-Contest":

Si bien es verdad que a causa de lo que ocurre en la provincia las aves están bastante irregulares, hay aquellas especies que nos visitan a pesar de todo; una de ellas son estos preciosos ¨ejemplares¨ : que sin importar lo que suceda están presentes, obsequiándonos su belleza.

While it’s true that, due to the situation in the province, bird sightings have been quite inconsistent, some species still visit us regardless—like these beautiful "specimens," which show up no matter what, gifting us with their beauty.

Another specimen that has visited us this week—one that remembers us from time to time and stops by to say hello—exhibits quite unique behavior; they are almost always seen alone, though come springtime, they appear accompanied by the mate they pair up with each year.

many times you may see a seagull standing on one foot. it's common behavior in order to limit the loss of warmth. so if you can only see one leg the gull is probably fine and healthy. but here we can clearly see both legs and one of them is missing the webbed foot. the most common causes of this are that the foot was caught on some fishing line or plastic or something like that and it ended up cutting off the circulation of blood and eventually fell off. or maybe the gull was swimming in the water by paddling with its feet and a fish bit the foot off. or maybe a cat jumped it and the gull flew up but a split second too late and the cat caught the foot in its mouth. or maybe it got into a serious fight or the foot got stuck somehow... anyway, whatever the cause life is tough as a wild animal. so let's give this footless feathered friend some respect

Hello to everyone who regularly visits this beautiful "FeatheredFriendsCommunity": For several weeks now, I’ve been mentioning the weather and its consequences; currently, much of the province is dealing with issues related to "flooding." Fortunately, it isn’t raining all that often—which is a good thing, as that could make matters even worse. Luckily, we managed to capture some footage of a bird species, which allows us to take part in this fantastic "Show-Me-A-Photo-Contest":

Esta semana, al igual que la anterior, las aves se están movilizando mucho, y seguro tiene que ver con lo que está pasando con el clima y las lluvias: entre esas visitas han regresado estas ¨aves¨: que no nos visitan tan seguidos como nos encantaría.

This week, much like the last, there has been a lot of bird activity—likely linked to the current weather conditions and rainfall. Among these visitors, we’ve seen the return of these birds: —a species that doesn't visit us as often as we’d love!

  ¨Rauenia¨-¨bonariensis:

The truth is that we are always happy when these birds are around, as we love their singing and their behavior; they are usually found on tree branches, searching for food. Based on its colors, I can say that this is a male, since the females tend to have a more grayish coloration.

It’s also very easy to do, as they aren’t afraid of people—especially in city parks where there are bird feeders. In such places, these birds become so accustomed to humans that you can feed them right out of your hand. They get so comfortable around people that they might even take a treat and start hiding it in the folds of your jacket, your pockets, or even your hat.

Remarkably, they actually remember where they’ve hidden their supplies. However, they don’t always get to eat these stores, as other birds often discover them.

I hope that in less than 2 months, I'll have added a ton of new bird photos to my portfolio - and hopefully, a alot of new species! But while that moment doesn't come... I guess magpies will deserve the spotlight!

 Eurasian magpie - *Pica pica*

I call them historial magpies because I've seen them during my visit to the Acropoles, in Athens. There were quite a few of them, hoppin around.

![IMG_0015.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/pardinus/EowH6pRk62qneMQwTrnaCfVG72PSAc6fWZbRBFNoMBHVTpgjfa14S7GLcVfz6HaYZJq.JPG)

There are a lot of trees and green spaces near the monuments, so likely even more feeding opportunities, together with whatever is left behind by the tourists.

![IMG_0016.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/pardinus/EpVCYqhVLLnaYLPBqKMMunW6xNe3nDuPXvvBMoHZ43WyKUgTjnP4nMUyDQh6AixMF6h.JPG)

Being such an intelligent bird, they can probably discover quickly where best to hang out; or they also like the Acropolis view, like I did! They surely didn't looked that scared of humans, although some refused to get their photo taken and simply turned their backs.

![IMG_0011.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/pardinus/EpEJJNfH618HeCrauBfAAUDar1Auj9Gy3Lt1N3z5mtPNnRAYyRv75piv5VSckHvSg26.JPG)

To compensate, others were incredibly friendly. One of them allowed me to come as close as just a couple of meters.

![IMG_0023.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/pardinus/EoGysFBEFZsTZsTU1T7xUG3s6hGfAAg9KXswEt4CECkepK9b4KsxuzWCa5pndN7vWkX.JPG)

And she looked curious; likely, waiting to see if any treat would come her way. So she simply stood there, watching the human snapping photos.

![IMG_0018.JPG](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/pardinus/EoCj4rdtEsiRN7QFygojuirSCsTJom3dfEYr1uSTitJqTMYDukr1phahxBEhZkNvrSt.JPG)

Unfortunately, Greece didn't provide that many birdwatching opportunities. Hoping the next vacations will be quite different, and will want to share the end result! ;)

Traslate:

Today I want to share a piece of the natural magic of my country. I am working on an educational project for children, teaching them about Cuban wildlife, and I have to talk about the Cuban Trogon (Tocororo), the national bird of Cuba.

Here are some incredible facts about this bird:

🇨🇺 The colors of the flag: Its plumage is red, white, and blue—exactly the colors of the Cuban flag. That's why it was chosen as the national bird.

🎵 Its name is its song: It repeats a sound that goes "toco-toco-tocoro-tocoro". That's how it got its name!

🏡 A borrowed home: Unlike other birds, the Tocororo does not build its own nest. It prefers to find holes in tree trunks left by woodpeckers and use them as a cozy house.

🌳 Where it lives: It is endemic to Cuba and lives in the forests across the island. It is a calm bird and very easy to observe if you stay very still.

I am excited to include the Tocororo in the animated stories of "Francito," a Cuban boy who teaches kids to care for nature. Teaching new generations to love and respect our birds is a superpower.

Have you ever been lucky enough to see a Tocororo in its natural habitat? Tell me in the comments!
